A good 1:100 modelling alternative to Steel Mesh (grating)?

I'm making an architectural model, and the IRL material of choice is steel mesh. It may also be called oxidized steel mesh grating. I'm essentially looking for modelling materials that best represent this building material, taking into account the small scale of the model.

The material doesn't have to be to scale of course, it could be a larger representation of the intricate details. Bendable, stiff, see-through, any material suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you're just going to use it for flat surfaces, look in a fabric store/section at walmart. look for some veil-type materiel. You can iron it flat, stretch it across a frame, and paint it the color you want.

Screen material from a hardware store could work, or if you can find some steel mesh and remove some of the strands to give it the pattern in the picture.

The only way to get really close to the prototype you showed, would be to go to a hobby store (probably one that specializes in trains) and find some plastic structural modeling stock. Check out Plastruct.com
