Are my golf clubs good for a beginner?

What is more important is if these clubs are a fit for you. These are all very good clubs for the average golfer. However, as a beginner, there are a couple things you need to keep in mind:

1. Club length -- Make sure these clubs fit you. If your dad got them for his build and you are around the same size as he is, this shouldn't be a problem. If he's 6 ft 4 though and you're 5'10", there might be some issues.

2. Degree of loft on the driver -- As a beginner, you benefit from more loft because you're going to have a hard enough time getting your drives to go where they want! If it's under 10 degrees, you might want to consider getting one that is at least 10.5 degrees. You'll find the degree on the crown of your driver.

3. Try getting a hybrid club -- In general, people aren't as good with their 3 or 4 irons as they are with the other clubs. If you want some extra help, consider getting a 3 or 4 hybrid club. These are definitely a LOT easier to hit and give you extra distance to boot!

In any case, you've got generally very good clubs, so good luck on your golfing endeavors!

Reviews on Callaway Diablo Edge Steel Shaft Iron

The Callaway Diablo Edge irons are the longest and most user friendly irons that Callaway have produced and build on the appeal and playability of the now iconic Big Bertha irons.

As part of their commitment to amateur golfers Callaway have been busy studying exactly how ordinary golfers strike the ball. The results led Callaway’s designers to drop the centre of gravity in the Diablo Edge golf irons 50% lower and 17% deeper to move the sweet spot to the exact area where most golfers will hit most of their shots. The relocation of the centre of gravity has also allowed each Diablo Edge iron to have a one degree stronger loft to maintain the height of the ball flight.

A new Solid Impact Sole design allows the Callaway Diablo Edge to slide through the turf more efficiently and reduce the impact of any thinned shots. The Diablo Edge irons are confidence building clubs but if you do need an extra boost then the longer irons can be replaced with the Diablo Edge hybrid from the six iron upwards.

We were impressed by the Big Bertha Diablo irons when they were launched so we were keen to get our hands on the new Callaway Diablo Edge irons. We like the styling and the graphics and our only quibble with the appearance of the Diablo Edge irons is that the short irons can look a little chunky and the large cavity in the longer irons is visible at address. This has also been a problem in the Big Bertha irons but it is only a small complaint and it doesn’t affect performance.

The performance of the Callaway Big Bertha Diablo Irons is excellent and you can really feel the extra power generated by the slightly stronger lofts. With the sweet spot lowered it takes little effort to get the ball and airborne and we’re really impressed that all Callaway’s research into amateur golfers makes such a big difference to the performance. We were similarly impressed by both the standard and tour versions of the Diablo Edge hybrid but we’d certainly recommend that better golfers persevere with the longer irons. Even the 2 iron is wonderfully forgiving with the advantage of a lower ball flight compared to the hybrid equivalent.

The Big Bertha Callaway

One of the greatest thrills in playing golf is to drive the ball long and straight down the fairway and into the greens. Unfortunately, the pleasure and thrill was not experienced by anyone before Ely Callaway Jr arrived on the scene. In 1991, Callaway introduced the Big Bertha Callaway driver. The Big Bertha had a revolutionary ‘large volume club head’.

One could experience that perfect drive with this 190cc steel head golf club. The large head with the increased sweet spot was what they called the secret to it all.

This Big Bertha Callaway enabled a great drive even when the contact between the club and the ball was not so perfect.Earlier, this would have been only a dream.The big bertha allowed more room for error and gave even the not so professional and avid golfers a sweet shot down the fairway.

Since introducing the big head driver, Callaway has always tried to improve upon its models and designs. The improved clubs by the names of ‘Great Big Bertha’ and the ‘Biggest Big Bertha’ have been introduced. But still, Callaway wasn’t too satisfied with the performance of the drivers. He wanted a much more lighter and accurate and sleek design. This is when he introduced the Grand Big Bertha Hawkeye Titanium driver. Titanium is a very light yet very strong metal and thus it considerably reduces weight of the driver without sacrificing on the distance and the strength. The Big bertha Hawkeye was a complete sellout. It completely took over the markets overnight.

This time around the USGA began introducing measures to allow big headed drivers in the game. With the increased club size trend all around, the company introduced the Callaway big bertha 454 driver and the Callaway Big Bertha 460 driver.

New technology and the super big market of women golf drew the manufacturers to introduce the Big Bertha 460 driver for women, proving to the world that women could indeed use and handle big head clubs. Callaway uses a unique Fusion technology (patented by him), which as the name suggests fuses titanium and a carbon composite. This immensely helps to evenly distribute the weight of the club head move it a little away from the centre of gravity. This very minute change of the position of the centre of mass highly increases the stability of the club. It thus offers a greater distance and excellent accuracy. Callaway has also designed a shallower face and a flatter one with the Big Bertha clubs which help improve accuracy and efficiency all the more.

All the technology that goes into the making of the drivers is got after detailed and elaborate tests and many tests on the greens. What is got is a highly advanced club that does not go unnoticed by the pros. Phil Mickelson and Gary Player has endorsed Callaway drivers to the hilt.

I'm getting ready to list these clubs on eBay and I can't find identifying information about which model they are or if they're men's or women's

Actually those are Callaway BB 06 Graphite. I have the same set, I bought it in Golf Galaxy Pre-Owned for $299 and they're for men's.
