Cut 10 Strokes Off Your Golf Handicap With Two Fingers

If you've played golf a while you've heard practice makes perfect.

Here's the bad news.

It doesn't.

Keep reading for the good news.

Have you ever had a day on the course where everything goes just right? Tee shots are straight and far. Putts were true and short. The sand wedge was left in the bag. No hooks or slices.

And, if Tiger was in your foursome, you would have beaten him? Almost.

Then, the next time you played, you couldn't do anything right? Hooks. Slices. Traps. Short putts that got longer. Topped tees shots.

What was the difference in the two rounds?

You know how to play golf. Any golfer that's been playing for a couple of years knows the fundamentals of golf. You know where to put your feel, how to swing the club, how to putt, and what club to use.

What's the big difference in the two rounds?

The answer is simple. And, now, believe it or not, the solution is easy.

On the good day you were hitting from "The Zone". The one you try to get into on every shot. On the good day you managed to get into it on some shots. If it was a great day, you got into it on most shots. On the bad day the only zone you could find was the twilight zone.

But there's another zone perhaps just as important in golf. The "Comfort Zone". And, you're about to learn how you can lower your's.

What do you normally shoot? Eighty? Ninety? Hundred? Whatever it is, that's your comfort zone.

All you have to do to lower your handicap is to change your comfort zone.

The problem with the comfort zone is that it has nothing to do with how well you know the fundamentals or techniques of golf. If you've been playing a while you know them. And, I'm assuming you do.

Instead, it has everything to do with how good a golfer you think you are.

If you "think" you're 20 handicapper that's what you are. If you think 10 that's your handicap. Think 5...be 5.

Do you believe Tiger thinks he's a five handicapper? Not on your life.
He thinks he's a minus five so he's the world's greatest golfer. Maybe of all time.

So how good of a golfer do you think you are? More important, how do you change your thinking?

Ron Johnson, of Seattle, Washington, thought he was a 90 golfer. Until he changed his thinking and started shooting rounds in the mid 70s.

I'll let Ron explain

"My statements began something like..."even though putting is extremely frustrating, I still completely accept myself." I would practice on the putting green with 10-twenty foot putts, 10-ten foot putts and 10-five foot putts. Each time, I would go through the nine-step process with the same statement..."Even though these putts are nerve-racking, I still completely accept myself." I found that I began to feel much more confident over the putts and some actually went in the cup. Three-putts to get the ball in the hole began to disappear and, within three months, my average scores went from 95-100 down to 85-90. I've had many rounds in the 70's during the past year and I am now setting a goal of shooting below 70. The process works equally well with each shot in the game, not just the putter. In fact, I now use the process before beginning the round with the following statements: "Even though I am filled with apprehension on this round, I completely and totally accept myself."

Statements? Completely accept myself? What is this new age stuff?

Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT. You've probably read about it in the golfing magazines at the club house.

Ron was so impressed with what EFT did for his golf game he started coaching golf using EFT.

One of his students dropped his "average putts per round" from 37 to 29. Another golfer knocked an average of 5 to 6 strokes per round off of her score.

How did they do that? They changed their "Comfort Zone using EFT.

What is this EFT you've been reading about in the golfing magazine and online?

Gary Craig, a Stanford trained engineer, who developed Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT, explains.

As he states on his world wide headquarters web site, "EFT is based on a new discovery that has provided thousands with relief from pain, diseases and emotional issues. Simply stated, it is an emotional version of acupuncture except needles aren't necessary. Instead, you stimulate well established energy meridian points on your body by tapping on them with your fingertips. The process is easy to memorize and is portable so you can do it anywhere. It launches off the EFT Discovery Statement which says...

"The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system."

He goes on to say:

"All of the discoveries of modern physics, from Einstein on, support the ancient theory that a universal energy flows through everything in nature," says Gary Craig, a Stanford-trained engineer. "This energy, called Qi or Chi, flows through the body along paths called meridians. Anything that stimulates points along these meridians helps the energy flow freely. Acupuncture uses needles, acupressure uses massage, and EFT uses fingertip tapping. By combining the tapping with focused thought, you can release energy blocks that interfere with a good night's sleep. In countless clinical cases, EFT has helped people fall asleep and stay asleep, even in times of stress and adversity.

What can EFT be used for? For one thing, lowering your golf handicap.

Has anyone tried this meathod for keeping your wedge looking new?

If you take a wedge golf club that has tarnished and soak it in regular coke it will remove the tarnish from your club.

This does work well, but like the first guy said, used Club Soda or Sprite. It's the carbonation that does it. Depending on the metal, don't leave it in for too long. I've seen them get pitted by guys that left them in over night and just kept adding sprite so keep the fizz up. Let it sit for a couple hours then scrub it with a wire brush for a few minutes, should work like a charm! After that, find a local repair shop and have them "sharpen" your grooves. It will help the ball check a little easier on the green. Careful though, you'll cut up your golf balls a little easier. Good luck, have fun!

What Golf Wedge Do I Need?

Golf wedges are your money clubs, allowing super accurate, softly landing shots into the firmest of greens. Nearly seventy five per cent of your golf game is played from 120 yards out Knowing your golf wedges will assist you to choose the correct one or two or four. Many pro golfers now carry 4 wedges at least and US golfer Phil Mickleson carries five! often leaving his driver out of the bag because he knows it is the wedges that will carry him through a game. If you want more bang for your buck forget about the super duper driver, the hyped up rescue wood and invest in some wedges.

Pitching Wedge;

Most sets come with a pitching wedge . Lofts range from 47 to 50 degrees and these are the least lofted of all the wedges. Use from about 120 yards out.

Gap Wedge;

A newcomer, the gap wedge fills the gap between the pitching wedge and the more lofted sand wedge. Gap wedges are commonly around the 51 to 55 degre mark.

Sand Wedge;

Surprisingly enough the sand wedge is used for playing in the sand. Lofted to around 56 to 58 degrees the sand wedge is mostly used from the green side bunkers. Opening or closing the face will, like all wedges allow for a degree of variation in ball flight.

Lob Wedge;

A further refinement in the wedge armoury, the lob wedge has a loft of around 60 degrees and allows a very high, very soft landing shot from close range. Ideal for the firmer greens the lob shot will drop and stop. Wedges of up to 64 degrees are starting to appear, another indicator that wedges are where the action is.

What is bounce and what bounce do I need?

Bounce is a combined factor of width of sole,angle of club edge to the ground and head design.Many pros will have the bounce angle adjusted to the particular conditions of a course but for the rest of us a the standard bounce of about 16 degrees will perform better on a softer course whilst the low bounce clubs, 12 degrees, are more suited to the firmer turf of a links course.

Most but not all wedges come with a steel shaft with a wedge flex, i.e. stiff, this is to give better feel whilst striking the ball.

Club heads come in a variety of finishes and it really down to personal preference however wedges with a raw or 'rusty' finish will give better backspin due to the grippier finish. An old trick with these clubs was to leave them in the rain to rust and then give a quick wire brush for maximum spin rates. Balls will quickly split or tear with these clubs.

So invest in your game and invest in a wedge.

Golf Clubs - The Truths The Beginners Need To Know

Each set of clubs in the bag is different, yet with similar uses. It's vital that golfers get a clear understanding of the purpose of each club. After all, it would take you a bit of effort and time to get round just using a putter now, wouldn't it.

Driving Down The Fairway

First, you have to know that there are the woods. These are called the driver, the two wood, three wood, four wood, and the five wood. There is a six wood and seven wood but they are rare. The number describes the angle of the face of the head, with driver being the most upright and the lower numbers angled more, to give loft to the ball when it is hit.

Woods are used for getting the golf ball the farthest distance possible and do so by the weight they have behind the head. It's shape is bulky and weighty, so that when you swing you have all the meat of that weight built into the momentum of the swing, then POW - down the fairway you go!

If you want to hit the golf ball over two hundred yards off the tee then you may well use a wood. Incidentally and confusingly, they are nowadays made of metal!

Distance With Control

Second, you have to understand that there are the irons. These clubs are meant for greater accuracy and are most commonly, though not exclusively, used for short distance shots.

You see, you can use irons for distance too and especially with a tricky hole, or when the weather is a bit challenging, you will see pros using irons.

There are several types of irons. These are numbered one to nine, with an increasing loft, which also reduces the distance possible. These standard iron golf clubs are essential in getting the golf ball as close as possible to the pin, using loft and flight as the main tools.

Special Golf Clubs

Third, there are the special golf clubs, most of which are very specific in nature.

The first of the special golf clubs that you have to understand is the wedge. The wedge is used to get the golf ball as high as possible. If you want to go over

The second of the special golf clubs is the sand wedge. Do you see the sand bunkers all over the golf course? When you get stuck in these sand bunkers, you need to use the sand wedge to get out of them. Due to the loft this club will, when used with the right technique, slice through the sand beneath the ball and lift it onto the grass.

The fourth of the special golf clubs is the pitching wedge. This pitching wedge is used so that you can get an accurate shot to the green. The pitching wedge is the second most accurate golf club in your golf bag.

The last of the special golf clubs is the putter. The putter is the most accurate of the golf clubs because this is what you use in order to get the golf ball into the hole. It's a very specialized club that you use nowhere else on the course.
